What would you do with No School Fridays?
No school Fridays are a timeless gift for parents and kids. If you are lucky enough to live in the High County of Grand County Colorado, Fridays are winter wonderland days. Four long school days Monday through Thursday allow for no school on Fridays.
No school Fridays increase family time.
Two day weekends disappear quickly; three days give you an extra day to play and create family memories. The active culture of Colorado lends itself to a no school Fridays to facilitate year round activities– skiing, camping, mountain biking, climbing, hiking. Many winter sports here in the high country keep families on the move during the 6-8 month winter season.–snow tubing, snow mobiles, ice fishing, skiing, snow shoeing, cross county skiing, sleigh rides, dog sleds, ice skating, hockey and broom ball keep the kids moving during the winter. The Joyous Family focuses on improving their down hill skiing every winter.
Now add a free ski pass for all Grand County kids on no school Fridays and you get a winter carnival. Easy to access Granby Ranch Ski Area plays host to local families and younger children. All three lifts return to the same family friendly lodge with a sunny lunch room opens on to a deck where you can watch your children’s lessons.
Granby Ranch Ski Resort starts weekly Friday ski lessons in January for anyone old enough to walk. Around 2 1/2 years old, most local kids learn to ride the magic carpet up the tiny slope and ski down to excited parents. These little fellows quickly progress to the bunny hill and by the end of March are conquering the green ski slopes with Mom or Dad gliding along behind. Now truly, I ski like I swim, just well enough to keep from drowning, but on these beautiful sunny days there is no where else I would rather be than riding a ski lift with my kiddos.
How would you handle an extra day in your week-end?
