What Two Days With A U-Haul Taught Me about God

A blown engine in Amarillo on a family road trip left the boys and I stranded for a few days.  Triple A showed up quickly, assuring me a quick fix.  The mechanic thought different.  J. C. of  Gene Messer Ford  brainstormed solutions, called friends in the business trying to get us a rental truck, and finally called in a favor for a U- haul. boysgettingintowtruck

Just before 5 pm Ron at Shorty Bears came up with a 10 foot  U-haul that would pull the camper out of  Palo Duro Canyon, Texas.

Paper work signed and feeling confident that I could pull the trailer with a 10 foot u- haul we opened up the door to the rental truck.

Problem!  It only had 2 seats!

There were three of us. Ok now what?  What about a 17 foot?  Oh Lord!  How am I going to haul 31 feet?   Can I really do that?  u-haulThere was no choice.  I swallowed my fear and gratefully accepted the 17 foot u-haul at the 10 ft rental truck price.  The boys hopped inside and we tried to salvage the evening before returning to the sticky hot camper.  “The air conditioning works well!” we  all said aloud.

I tried to hide my fear and anxiety from the boys and trust that it was all going to be ok.

We went swimming at West Texas A&M, eating dinner in town before returning to the camp site. My strength ran out about 9 pm.  Tears streamed down my face.  God! God!  I messed up!  How did I think I was going to be able to do this on my own.  Jesus where are you?  Where are you my love and husband?  How can I be Mommy? Camp director and now 17 foot truck driver.

My sweet boys said,u-haul

Mom, you are driving this truck great.
You are doing a good job hauling the camper.
Mom, everyone was very helpful today.
Remember, Ron said this U-haul will pull the camper out of the canyon super easy.
It was a good thing we were already in Amarillo when the truck quit.
This is part of the adventure remember, Mom.

My boys!  My sweet boys had started listing all the blessings of the crazy day.  We actually began to sing.  Whatever hymn came to us we sang. We praised God and thanked Him for all the people and circumstances that had come our way.

Plus, Mom, we did get to the pool before it closed.   That was good right.  God is here with us.

We are  going to be OK  boys.  God is speaking through you loud and clear.  We flopped into bed.  The only family towing a 14 ft camper with  a 17 ft u-haul.  All part of the adventure!
