I work from home and my house is spotless. Never gonna hear that from me. My greatest desire is to hire a housekeeper like Alice from the Brady Bunch. Alice even made dinner and took care of kid issues.
Realistically, a house keeper who left behind a home cooked meal once a week would be enough. Would that not be heaven? Coming home from a hard day of blogging at the coffee shop (drinking chai tea for hours) to find a clean house and a hot meal. Praise the Lord! My life would be complete.
Work From Home House Cleaning Tips
Since that is not going to happen any time soon, I have created ‘stay-at-home’ house keeping tips you might enjoy.
Tip #1 Write into you calendar the specific date and time you are going to do the big clean each week.
Two hours will do for most houses. Make this a firm appointment. Do not break the promise to yourself or be late. Warning: If you don’t do this, every pile of laundry will call your name just as you sit down to work.
Tip #2 Set a timer for each room. Make it a race.
How much can you get done in 15 minutes in each room of your house. Don’t get stuck in deep cleaning, reserve that for another spot on the calendar. The timer works well for kids rooms, too! Give them 15 minutes to zoom around the room and pick up all their toys before the bell rings so you can vacuum.
Tip #3 Establish routines for regular chores, e. g., dishes and laundry.
I am trying “batching” my dishes, instead of cleaning up after every meal . I am stacking all of them in the right hand side of the sink, then unloading, rinsing and loading the dishwasher after dinner in one batch rather than 3 times a day. Although I wash laundry every morning, I am batching the folding and saving it all until Thursday night after the kids go to bed.
Tip#4 Use the clothes hamper and the closet well.
Teach your family and yourself to pick up bedrooms each evening before bed. This way, if you have a minute to vacuum, you don’t have to spend 10 minutes picking up legos, books and dolls. Also, you won’t be stepping on them late at night to reach a sick/scared kiddo.
Tip#5 Acceptance.
Your house is the center of your family life. It will be messy at times. If you want to see a spotless house clip a beautiful picture out of a magazine and hang in on a cork board above your desk. Every time you look at it take a deep breath and realize ( just like super models) the whole look is staged and photo shopped! My gift to you! A picture of a clean house to hang on you frig. Live in this picture when you are struggling to maintain your work from home house keeping. No one could possibly live here; look how clean it is!
