New To Sobriety, Now What?

What if the loved one you are worried about got sober overnight?  Hallelujah!  Right!  Yes and yes.

  • Are you finding that sobriety takes a little getting used to?
  • What are you feeling that should be different with sobriety, but isn’t?
  • Are you finding yourself feeling angry and upset?
  • Are you stuffing your feelings trying not to upset the newly sober person?
  • Do you just want everything to be the same as it was before?

There is no question that sobriety is the first step.  Celebrate that move with all your heart!  God is really doing great work in your life and your family.

How Do You Handle a Newly Sober Life

Huge stress is lifted off you and your family members with sobriety.  Now how do you go about creating a new life?  If you are like the Joyous Family, you spent some time with a therapist, joined a 12 step group and got a sponsor.  All of these are important actions.

Jerry and I did all that and at the end of our marriage therapy, our counselor said.  You have all the tools now go use them.”

“Huh, OK?” we said.

We tried and failed.  We tried harder and failed. We tried more.  Then we just gave up and went back to old, not healthy, dry drunk, patterns of anger, frustration, codependency, and disconnection.

Can I Ask You a Few Questions About Your Sober Family?

How does your life look now?
How do you want your life to look?
What would help you do that?

You see, even though our therapist gave us tools to use in our marriage after sobriety, we did not have a clue how to implement them on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.  We were struck.  Willing and wanting to change, but no real idea how to take the action steps to make that happen.

Looking back, I realize that we could have really used a coach to help us set goals and move forward.

International Coaching Federation defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

What Does a Recovery Coach Do?

The coach becomes a co-creator in your life.  Someone who walks beside you during the process of change to help.

Does this sound like something that would help get you and your family moving forward?  Don’t stay stuck for as long as we did.  I am curious to see what is going well and what you would like to improve through coaching.  Schedule a call or just send a voice message through one of these links.  Thanks!
